How Procrastination Can Affect Your Real Estate Business

Here’s how you can help manage your procrastination in real estate.

We have all procrastinated on something. For me, I go back to college, those all-nighters I pulled studying for tests. The only thing that kicked me into action was the deadline; I just waited until it was too heavy to avoid. I was thinking about how this applies to our real estate business and how often we leave the most important thing, lead generation, till last.

“What we’re lacking around something as simple as lead generation is a deadline.”

I think the issue is that there is no deadline. That little panic attack the day before the text doesn’t exist, so we end up neglecting the most important things. A book by Bryan Tracy called “Eat That Frog” walks through some ideas of beating procrastination that I like. He uses the idea of important goals as a ‘frog’. There are three steps he mentions:

1. Identify the ‘frog’. You have to identify the big goal before you try to tackle it.

2. Eat the ‘frog’. After you know what it is, you just have to do it, though he does mention that the morning is the best time. That’s why we always say to do lead generation in the morning.

3. Repeat. You need to keep doing it every day. This is the tricky part.

So to keep repeating it, you need to make a deadline. You might turn off your phone, set a timer, or you could even create a consequence. It will be different for everyone, but it should be something you don’t want to do. Maybe that means promising to donate $5,000 to a charity you don’t like. What can you set as that deadline to get you to do what you need to do? If you have any questions about how I manage my day, or you just want to talk about real estate, don’t hesitate to reach out to me.
